Cantaloupe- Week 24

April 1, 2014

This week you are the size of a cantaloupe! You weigh 12.7-20.8 ounces and measure 10.5-11.8 inches long.  Your skin is becoming more opaque and pink from small capillaries that are forming.  Your longs have developed but aren't ready for the outside world yet- but you are getting closer!

This week was waiting in anticipation for the weekend- and our babymoon! For those wondering (like Stephen did) what the heck a babymoon is- well its like a honeymoon but you go before baby arrives. One last vacation just the 'two' of you.  We decided to visit Puerto Rico- warm, tropical and no passport needed :)  We had a blast on our 4 day getaway! Day 1 we arrived in San Juan mid afternoon. We checked into the hotel, had some lunch and enjoyed the infinity pool.  The rooftop pool was a little chilly with the trade winds but better than the 40's back in Virginia.  We did a night tour of Old San Juan- learning about battles, legends and the history of the island(s).  The next morning after breakfast we checked out El Yunque National Forest and hiked to 2 waterfalls.  The hike was about 1.5 miles and 469 steps each way.  Needless to say it was slow going but beautiful.  We arrived at El Conquistador Resort after a few bumpy roads (potholes were nothing compared to these roads!) and enjoyed dinner at the resort before heading to our nigh kayaking tour of the Bio Bay.  The Bio Bay was so cool! We kayaked (in almost pitch black thanks to the new moon) through a mangrove canal before reaching the bay.  The Bioluminescent Bay glitter with movement- and some 75+ kayaks were out on the water.  The organisms also stayed on your body and in the kayak making everything shiny for a little bit.

Not a rainforest but still humid and rainy

Needing to take a break is a great photo op!

 Hiking selfie! Stephen's favorite thing...

The tour company took photos- reflective vests and flash don't mix :)

Sunday was our day of relaxation on the beach- or should I say on the island.  The resort had it's own island, Palamino Island where we relaxed in the sun and ocean kayaked to a smaller island, Palaminto Island for about an hour or so.  Stephen had read that many women liked digging a hole in the sand and laying belly down.  I was skeptical but man- it was awesome!!!! All the pressure just went away- everything got to stretch out and relax for a bit.  We headed back in the afternoon- we were both tired from being out in the sun- and SURPRISE! I am 10000000 times more sensitive to sun when pregnant. And yes, I applied sunscreen every hour liberally just in case this would happen! The sunscreen did nothing to help :(  Stephen joked that because it's his baby I burned for the baby (Stephen thinks too much about the sun and gets red).  Thankfully I wore a one piece suit and my face didn't burn.  After a shower to scrub off sand (ouch) and lathering up with coconut oil we enjoyed dinner at the resort's steakhouse.  I had a delicious filet mignon, even though it was cooked medium-well it was still one of the most tender and delicious filets I have had.
Monday vacation ended and we headed back to the airport after checking out Puerto Rico's largest mall (it was like all other malls- nothing too special).   Even though I burned, I would recommend to anyone who can- take a babymoon!!!!

View from our room- upgraded because Stephen is military
